NBA 3X, the global fan development event of the National Basketball Association (NBA), will be heading to Singapore for the first time.
Sanctioned by Basketball Association of Singapore, NBA 3X Singapore 2013, which will take place at the Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza from June 21 to 23, will provide an entertaining experience for fans of all ages to celebrate basketball and NBA culture, combining a free NBA fan festival with a 3-on-3 tournament.
The competitive 3-on-3 tournament features competition groups each for boys under-18, under-16, and under- 13 and for girls under-18 and under-16. There will also be an open category for both men and women.
A slam dunk contest, basketball clinics, 3-point shootouts, skills challenges and autograph sessions are just some of the free fan activities on offer, along with performances by an NBA dance team, an NBA mascot, live bands and DJs, and NBA merchandise giveaways.
An NBA Talent will also be on hand to run clinics and interact with fans.
Registration for NBA 3X Singapore 2013 begins May 3, on a first-come first-serve basis, and runs till June 10 or until all slots are full.”Bringing the first NBA 3X event to Singapore is an exciting next step to growing basketball in the country,” said Scott Levy, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, NBA Asia.
“With the support of our partners and the Singapore Sports Council, we expect this to become an annual event that will give the local community an opportunity to improve their skills and have fun with the whole family.”
The Singapore Sports Council’s Chief of Strategic Marketing and Development Group Toh Boon Yi believes NBA 3X, which will be organised in 14 countries outside of the United States this year, fits with Singapore’s promotion of sports as a way to promote a stronger sense of community.
“This will certainly excite the basketball fraternity and contribute to further growth of the sport here. We particularly like the fact that NBA 3X, leveraging on NBA’s global following, has a strong community element that engages the fans and public-at-large with interesting fringe activities,” said Toh.
“This fits well with our belief that everyone can live better through sports and we would like to urge Singaporeans to come forward and participate in this wonderful event.”
